The situation
The handheld scanners in the warehouse kept disconnecting and would not roam automatically from one access point to another. Every disconnect meant lost minutes, orders processed more slowly, and frustrated operators. Taken separately, the interruptions seemed minor. Added up, more than 100 operators were losing over 200 hours together on every working day.
Nobody inside the company had done anything wrong. The network had grown organically, together with the business - access points added one at a time, inherited configurations, no overall design. It is the situation we find in most manufacturing companies.
What we did
1. Full WiFi network audit - we identified the network design and scanner configuration problems, not just the symptoms.
2. Redesign and remediation - we corrected the architecture and the configurations, testing directly under real production conditions.
3. Security hardening - the audit also uncovered security vulnerabilities in the network, fixed within the same project.
Results
- ~2 hours recovered per day, per operator - over 200 hours daily across the company
- For a sense of scale: 200 hours per day is equivalent to the work of ~25 full-time employees. At an average fully loaded cost of 8-10 EUR/hour, the recovered value is 35,000-45,000 EUR per month (illustrative calculation)
